TUCSON – A right turn lane heading westbound on 22nd Street is What’s Driving You Crazy.
News 4 Tucson viewer, Alex said, “My small pickup truck barely fits in the lane without hitting the curb.”
He went on to say that the right turn from 22nd to Alvernon is too small and a hazard.
News 4 Tucson’s Allie Potter checked with the City of Tucson. They said the turn lane is 10 feet wide.
In fact, both left-turn lanes are also 10 feet wide. The through lanes before the intersection are 11 feet, 11 feet and 10 feet. The city said there is no room to make the turn lane wider. They are squeezing every bit of capacity out of the curb-to-curb width. Turn lane widths may be as narrow as 10 feet.
