TUCSON – The Arizona Board of Regents approved a one-year contract extension with new terms for the University of Arizona Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke through the 2022-23 academic year on Thursday.
Heeke’s contract be active until March 31, 2023.
“Dave Heeke has provided strong, ethical leadership for Arizona Athletics, and his top priority remains the success of our student-athletes, both on the field and in the classroom,” said University of Arizona President Robert C. Robbins.
Heeke was hired in February 2017 and the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years broke records in the classroom for Wildcat student-athletes.
Heeke expressed appreciation toward President Robbins and the board.
“Thank you to President Robbins and the Arizona Board of Regents for their commitment and trust in the work we are doing to serve our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the Arizona family,” said Heeke. “It is an honor to be a part of this incredible university and storied athletics program, and I am confident that we are poised for even greater success.”
AZ Athletics has made strategic commitments to the retention of successful head coaches under Heeke’s leadership, according to the UArizona Athletics communications department, and has made modifications and enhancements to all other sport coach contracts.
The UArizona athletic program launched a strategic plan called “The Wildcat Way” in September, becoming the first official strategic plan in department history that focuses on the growth and impact of the program, according to the athletics communications department.
