Baseball field to be named in honor of Jazelle Armenta

TUCSON – Baseball field number two in Winston Reynolds Manzanita Park will be named after 7-year-old Jazelle Monique Armenta.

On Tuesday, the Pima County Board of Supervisors approved the naming of the field to honor Jazelle, who was killed in a crash on Tucson’s southwest side in September.

The 7-year-old was on her way to practice at Manzanita Park when the vehicle she was in was t-boned by another driver. Pima County Sheriff’s Department says Vilma Wamsley, 65, was arrested for a motor vehicle violation causing death.

Jazelle was part of the Tucson Redskins 8U cheer team. Her team is now honoring her memory every time they step out on the field.

Earlier this year, the team held a car wash with the hopes of raising money to go to the Southern Arizona Cheer and Dance Championship and represent Jazelle.
