Skip the TV: PACC waiving adoption fees on black-furred pets on Black Friday

TUCSON – From pot sets to big-screen televisions, Black Friday is typically the day for people crowd into retail stores by the hundreds with hopes of purchasing a few discounted items.

But this Nov. 29, a local non-profit is offering the ultimate deal. And it is on something that is guaranteed to bring love and happiness in your home for years to come.

This Black Friday, Pima Animal Care Center will be waiving adoption fees for any pet fourth months old or older with black fur, whether if it is the epitome of a witch’s cat or a single spotted dalmatian. According to the shelter, reoccurring visitors may notice that some of the shelter inhabits typically “develop” new black spots during this time.

“Pets with black fur can sometimes get overlooked and blend into the background of the hundreds of pets we have available to adopt,” said Kristen Hassen, Director of Animal Services. “We’re hoping to get these pets noticed and help them find the perfect home so that they don’t have to spend the holidays in a kennel.”

With about 650 animals in need of a home this holiday season, PACC said they will also be offering discounts for the other non-black furred animals at the shelter. The prices for these pets will be reduced by 50 percent.

While the deals may highlight the shopping holiday, PACC said there will be a variety of fun activities throughout the day. According to officials, there will be a DJ, a food truck and giveaways at the shelter during the Black Friday event. Adopted pets will also receive a free pet tag.
