Predator of sexual assault near Arizona/Mexico border sentenced additional time

TUCSON – The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released a statement on Thursday announcing the sentencing of a sexual predator for an assault near the Arizona/Mexico border.

Jose Pastrano-Rios, 53, also known as “El Bigote”, from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico was serving 60 months in prison for alien smuggling charges when he was ordered to serve an additional nine and a half years by Arizona Superior Court, Pima County.

Pastrano-Rios’ sentence was raised after he was convicted for attempting to smuggle a woman into the United States and sexually assaulting her on May 13, 2017.

On May 9, Pastrano-Rios pleaded guilty to sexual assault.

These additional charges should send a message to predators everywhere, said Scott Brown, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Phoenix.

Brown also said HSI will continue to pursue justice for assault victims of assaults along the border.

HSI urges the public to report any suspicious characters or activity to their tip line at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE.
