Tornado warning issued near Marana

TUCSON – A tornado warning has been issued in Pima County Thursday afternoon.

According to National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm was reported near Marana at 3:40 p.m., traveling northeast at a speed of 30 miles per hour. Officials say the storm is capable of producing a tornado.

The areas affected includes north-central Pima County. Officials say the storm is expected to hit at around 3:55 p.m. at Marana 4:05 p.m. in Tortolita and 4:15 p.m. at Oro Valley.

NWS said other areas affected by the storm include Dove Mountain and Picture Rocks.

 

The tornado advisory is expected to last until 4:15 p.m.

Affected residents are advised to take cover and move into a basement or an interior room on the lowest the floor of a sturdy building.
