Man dies from injuries in single-vehicle crash on far south side

TUCSON – The person killed in Thursday’s crash on the far south side was identified by Tucson Police Department Wednesday afternoon.

According to TPD, 28-year-old Oscar R. Hernandez Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Mission Road and Ohio Street. Officials say Hernandez’s silver 2004 Mercedes-Benz passenger car allegedly went airborne after he struck a curb at a high rate of speed.

Police say the vehicle caught fire shortly after it stopped on a nearby hill. Officials say the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

Authorities say Hernandez was ejected from the vehicle, stopping several feet west of the vehicle. TPD says Hernandez was allegedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

No citations or charges have been made at this time.

The investigation is on-going.
