Southwest border apprehensions decline in August

TUCSON- U.S. Customs and Border Protection report a drop in the number of apprehensions at the southwest U.S.-Mexico border for the month of August.

“During the month of August, CBP apprehended or deemed admissible a total 64,000 individuals,” said CBP’s Acting Commissioner Mark Morgan. “For July if you recall that number was over 82,000 which represents a decline of 22 percent.”

During the 90-day period, he said that the August numbers reflect a 56 percent reduction from the peak in May which was about 144,000 apprehended individuals.
