(NBC News)- New research reveals why people tend to gain weight as they get older.
Scientists in Sweden studied fat cells in 54 men and women over 13 years.
During this time, all of them had decreases in lipid turnover which is how quickly fat in the cells is removed and stored.
People who did not compensate by eating fewer calories gained weight by an average of 20 percent.
Prior studies have shown that one way to speed up lipid turnover is to exercise more.
Afternoon naps are good for heart
There is no need to feel guilty about taking an afternoon nap. A little extra sleep could be the best medicine for your heart.
Researchers in Switzerland looked at the sleeping patterns of over 3,000 adults.
They found people who napped once or twice a week cut their risk of a heart attack or stroke by nearly half compared to non-nappers.
That was regardless of other risk factors like high blood pressure or cholesterol, or how much they slept at night.

However, there were no cardiovascular benefits linked to more frequent or longer naps.
