At 3-6, this season hasn’t gone as well as the Catalina Trojans would have hoped, but a 48-7 win over Tanque Verde helped spirits heading into the team’s Senior Day. Head Coach Chris Barlow’s group of seniors is a special one to him.
“I started here as an assistant coach and the freshman head coach and these seniors are my first group that I came up with,” said Barlow. “It’s four years in the making. It’s a big deal for me, so I’m sure I’ll be a little emotional.”
One of Barlow’s seniors, Leon Hayes III, exploded in his second-to-last game, scoring 5 touchdowns on 246 rushing yards. Hayes had just 9 carries.
“It was just getting the ball and running through the hole,” said Hayes III. “Just having my guys block, my brothers. That’s my family, I trust them with all my heart.”
Hayes is barely even a running back. The all-purpose Trojan played quarterback for the first few games of the season, but spends much of his time at wide receiver, along with return duties.
Since he prefers wide receiver, I challenged him to a toe drag catch contest in the corner of the end zone. Watch the video above to see the results.
