Easy Runs christens Winter Meet at Rillito Park

TUCSON - A race of Maidens was the perfect way to start the 2020 Winter Meet at Rillito Park Race Track.

And it was Easy Runs who came away the victor in the opening run for horses who had never before won a race.

His jockey Elias Gutierrez was a double winner on Opening Day as he also rode the victor in Saturday's second race Political Blood.

The first stakes race of the season was the 7th run on Saturday, the Patti and Dale (Doc) Shirley Memorial Stakes and June Two Four with jockey Kenneth P. Deonauth rode to the winner's circle. The purse for the initial stakes race was $6,600.

Sunday's Stakes races was the Rulon Goodman Maiden Stakes. It was won by Dynasty Dinamo. The horse's first victory in five starts.

There will be seven weeks and 14 races at this season's Winter meet. Racing continues on Saturday and Sunday February 15 and 16 with post time at 1:30 p.m.
