TUCSON - Conference 2A No. 10 St. Augustine Catholic scored the first 10 points of the second half Tuesday night on their way to a 68-49 victory over visiting 14th ranked Miami.

The win for the Wolves (22-4, 10-3) albeit assures SACHS of a spot in the Conference 2A play-in tournament.

St. Augustine can win the 2A South region outright with a victory over Desert Christian on Saturday night. A loss would drop the Wolves to 10-4 and into a three-way tie with San Manuel and San Carlos for the region championship but SACHS wins the tie-breaker having gone 3-1 head-to-head against the Miners and the Braves

A victory in the finale against Desert Christian could also vault St. Augustine into the Top 8 in the rankings, thus allowing them to avoid the play-in round.

Right now (10) St. Augustine, (13) San Manuel, (18) San Carlos, (14) Miami and (20) Desert Christian are all in the play-in tournament picture.

Both SACHS and Miami entered Tuesday's game 9-3 in region play.

St. Augustine Catholic honored senior players Jesus Enriquez, Aaron Palofox, Pablo Figeroa and Garret Powell and team manager Michael Inorio at Tuesday night's final home game against Miami

It was Senior Night and St. Augustine jumped out to a quick 15-5 lead on the Vandals but Miami (16-7, 9-4) rallied to tie the game at 24-24 in the second quarter. The Wolves led 30-26 at the half and quickly accelerated that advantage with a 10-0 run to start the third quarter.

St. Augustine is led this season by juniors Thomas Reyna (21 ppg) and Luis Trevizo (10 ppg) and sophomore David Campa (10 ppg). They won 17 of their first 18 games and were the No. 1 team in Conference 2A when the first rankings came out in early January.

Michael Reyna is in his seventh season as head coach of the Wolves. This is his fourth 20-win season. St. Augustine will be looking to make some headway under Reyna in the post season. They've twice been upset in the first round as six-seed including last year's 61-40 loss to 11th seed Pima.
