SAHUARITA - Sophomore Lina Bracamonte scored five goals Tuesday night to lead No. 9 Sahuarita to a 9-0 win over visiting San Miguel in the Mustangs Senior Night regular season finale.

Sahuarita honored their three 12th grade leaders Camila Nunez, Alexia Irigoyen and Apollonia "Apple" Otero-Morales during halftime of the game. By then the Mustangs (15-3-1, 6-1) were already up 4-0.

Bracamonte now has 30 goals on the season, tied for the team lead with freshman Sam Wright, who had one tally on the night. The 30 goals for each is tops in Southern Arizona and is tied for 4th most this season in the state.

The Mustangs 99 goals, as a team, is the most in the state of Arizona by 26 goals.

Rylee Arrington, Ariana Robles and Nunez also scored for Sahuarita. Arrington and Wright each had a pair of assists for the Mustangs who sit in 2nd place in Conference 3A South behind No. 7 Safford (10-2-1, 4-0-1).

SHS will now wait and see what the Bulldogs do in their final two matches against Pusch Ridge and Catalina on Wednesday and Thursday. A loss by Safford in either of those two showdowns would give the Mustangs the section championship.

The Conference #3A Play-In Tournament kicks off the state tournament on February 7. The quarterfinals will be on February 11.

Sahuarita will likely need to move up at least one spot to No. 8 to insure a home game in the Play-In round.

The Mustangs won 19 matches a season ago and advanced to the quarterfinals where they lost to top seed Yuma Catholic 7-1.
