Villalobos set to cap four-year Benson career with one last run at a title

BENSON – And the Friday Football Fever Week 11 Tucson Roadrunners Player of the Week award goes to Benson Bobcats senior running back Dondre Villalobos.

Villalobos had a career night with 189 yards on six carries and three touchdowns in the Bobcats 56-12 win over rival Willcox.

He didn’t have to do all the work. The four-year varsity star had help from fellow senior running back Carson Barney who added a pair of scores on 152 yards and five carries.

It was Benson’s 8th consecutive victory over the Cowboys enabling them to retain the coveted Senney-Lohman Trophy.

Villalobos has 777 yards rushing on the season and has scored 29 touchdowns on his career.

Benson (7-3, 4-0) won the Conference 2A San Pedro Region championship and will return to the post-season for the seventh time in eight years.

The Bobcats, coached by Chris Determan who is in his 17th season, are the 9th seed and will play Veritas Prep on Friday night at Scottsdale Christian Academy.

The winner of the game will get top seed Round Valley in the quarterfinals.
