Glass removed from curbside blue bin program starting Feb. 1

TUCSON (KVOA) - Glass can no longer be recycled by being placed in your curbside blue bins after the City of Tucson Mayor and Council voted to remove glass from the residential and commercial blue barrel program starting Feb. 1, 2021.

According to officials, the city decided to remove glass from the program in order to help reduce the processing costs at the Material Recovery Facility.

As a replacement, residents are asked to drop off their unwanted glass materials at drop-off sites across the city. The address for the drop-off sites will be mailed to Environmental and General Services Department customers before February.

Glass dropped off at the collection sites are asked to be empty, clean and dry, with lids and caps removed. Labels can remain on the glassware.

Starting February 21, only plastic bottles, jugs and containers, paper, cardboard, aluminum and tin cans can be recycled through the blue bin program.
