TUCSON (KVOA) - Tucson football watchers came into Friday night’s opener between Cienega and Canyon del Oro talking about Dorados running back Stevie Rocker.

They left the game talking about the Bobcats top rusher Gabriel Levy.

Levy ran wild in a 28-14 Cienega victory. He finished with 208 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.

The Dorados (1-0) defense controlled Rocker, a UA commit, all night.

His early threat though allowed CDO quarterback Montana Neustadter to fool the Bobcats on some zone-read quarterback keepers, one of which the senior scored on to give the Dorados an early 7-0 lead.

The turning point in the game came late in the 2nd quarter.

The Bobcats where driving to take the lead when quarterback Ryan Swoger threw what looked like it would be his second pick-six of the ball game.

Raife Anthony had CDO's first interception return for a touchdown to give CDO a 14-7 lead.

Dorados' safety Ethan Seppala then jumped an inside slant and took it 85 yards to the end zone.

The play however was negated when one of Seppala's teammates inadvertently ran out of bounds and then came back into the play.

CDO was flagged for illegal participation.

Instead of a go-ahead touchdown the Dorados took over in Cienega territory only to see their drive end on a Christian Dicochea interception of Neustadter.

Cienega turned the takeaway into six points. Swoger scored on a 15-yard scamper pushing the Bobcats in front 21-14.

The game was a defensive struggle in the second half. Swoger scored on a late run after the Bobcats continually denied CDO chances to tie the game.

The QB finished with 134 yards rushing, but threw three interceptions overall as Cienega survived six turnovers.

Who the Boys from Vail play next is a big question. The Bobcats were scheduled to host Nogales next Friday night but the Apaches canceled their opener against Sahuarita due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Nogales is in quarantine and will not be able to play on November 6.

The Dorados (0-1) visit Sahuaro next Friday. It’ll be the Cougars first game.
