(CNN) - Most obituaries don't go viral -- but one a South Carolina woman wrote recently did because it was written for her dog!
Sallie Gregory Hammett felt compelled to write about the life of her golden retriever, Charlie after he lost his battle with lymphoma.
She says it started as a way to help her work through her feelings and remember her best friend's quirks.
Hammett got Charlie when he was just eight weeks old.
The pooch saw her through her single years and helped her realize she had found her soul mate in the man who loved him as much as she did.
She married in May, adding another human to the bond she shared with Charlie.
Hammett posted the obit to her social media accounts for friends and family. But after some dog-centric Twitter feeds shared it, the story of Charlie's life racked up more than 100,000.
Before Charlie died in early September. He got one last trip to his favorite place -- the beach.
He was seven years old.
