TUCSON (KVOA) - A 9-year-old child was killed in a hit-and-run crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon on the east side of Tucson.

According to the Tucson Police Department, two young children and their mother were involved in the initial collision that occurred near Broadway Boulevard and Pantano Road.

The mother and children were walking in a marked crosswalk when they were struck. It is unclear if the overhead lights at the crosswalk were activated, TPD officials said.

The other child, 10-years-old, is in the hospital with serious injuries, but do not appear to be life-threatening.

The mother does not have any known injuries.

Tucson Police Department is asking for your help in locating a light-colored SUV BMW, with front end damage, that is suspected of hitting the mother and two children.

The license plate of the vehicle is unknown and being investigated.

TPD said Broadway Boulevard between Sarnoff to Maguire roads has been shut down in both directions.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
