16-year-old arrested after 13-year-old brother dies in southside shooting

TUCSON (KVOA) - A homicide investigation is underway after a 13-year-old died in a shooting that occurred inside a southside apartment Saturday evening.

According to Tucson Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of West Valencia Road near 12th Avenue in reference to a shooting that occurred in a nearby apartment at around 8 p.m. Saturday.

Police said a 13-year-old boy was found with obvious signs of gunshot trauma after family members reportedly heard a firearm go off in a bedroom where the 13-year-old was alone with his 16-year-old brother.

The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to TPD, one family member reportedly left the apartment with the 16-year-old immediately after the alleged shooting. The officers located the two in the parking lot of a nearby church.

The 16-year-old was arrested for one count of negligent homicide in connection to the shooting.

The gun allegedly used in the incident has not yet been located.
