Arizona Wildcats linebacker Sterling Lewis dies at 32

TUCSON – Arizona Wildcats linebacker Sterling Lewis (‘09) died Wednesday after being hospitalized for valley fever, according to his former high school coach Jack Welch. He was 32.

“I’m very saddened to announce to all Dawgs, our brother Sterling Lewis passed away today from Valley Fever disease complications,” Welch wrote on Twitter. “Please remember his two children, wife and parents in your prayers. RIP Sterling.”

Lewis graduated from Copperas Cove, Texas High School in 2006. He majored in sociology and switched to No. 52 to honor Ray Lewis.

On Feb. 10, a GoFundMe account was created to support Lewis and his family. As of Thursday, more than $13,000 have been raised.

Lewis is survived by his wife and two children.
