N4T Investigators: Arrest made in series of vending machine thefts

TUCSON – Pima County deputies said they arrested a man suspected of multiple vending machine thefts around Tucson.

Matt Malisewski,32, was arrested in early April.

Officials say Malisewki was charged with third-degree felony burglary after he was caught on surveillance video trying to steal from a coin-operated laundromat.

Over the last four months, more than a dozen businesses have reported vending machine thefts.

One of them happened on the University of Arizona campus.

“He’s going into open buildings looking at the vending machines making sure nobody is around and then he is using the key to enter the vending machine. Not to steal the product but to actually take the cash,” said Cindy Sapsoff with the University of Arizona Police Department.

UA police have also filed burglary charges against Malisewski.

Sources tell News 4 Tucson six other agencies are also considering charges.
