TUCSON (KVOA) - Day two of the Cologuard Classic Pro-Am hosted by the Tucson Conquistadores is now in the books, and players are anxious to begin round one of the tournament on Friday.
Apart from the golfing on the course itself, the Cologuard Classic is all about spreading the word about fighting cancer.
"I was diagnosed in 2017 with colon cancer," said Scott Taylor, as he met alongside PGA golfing great Jerry Kelly.
Along with other cancer survivors, Kelly was honored at the Omni Tucson National by not only getting to hang out with Jerry Kelly … He and others also got free, special-edition, "FootJoy Custom Colorectal Cancer Awareness-Inspired Golf Shoes."
"I actually played in this last year (too), so I'm recycling the shoes this year," said Taylor, "They're all broken in so I don't have to break in a new pair this year, I can keep those clean. I'm very thankful to be here and support this great cause."
It's a -great- cause also appreciated by a golfing -great- (PGA veteran Jerry Kelly).
"I just lost a good friend of mine, Rob, who played in this pro-am last year. He was diagnosed at 48-years-old of stage 4, waiting for then the age was 50.," said Kelly, from the Omni Tucson National driving range, "You need to know family history, you need to know when to get screened. Healthy individuals 45 and older don't wait! Get it now. Get it right away. Once you turn 45, it's like a birthday present for you and your family."
Cheating death and overcoming cancer is certainly an amazing feet.
Nothing is guaranteed in life. However, getting tested for colon cancer earlier certainly gives you more of a chance to be a -shoe in- for living longer, and enjoying more golf in the Old Pueblo.
Kelly will be sporting the special shoes himself. all throughout the weekend at the Cologuard Classic hosted by the Tucson Conquistadores.
