TUCSON (KVOA) - There’s a new public park coming to town and it's a special one.
The City of Tucson and Intermountain Centers is introducing a new sensory park designed to accommodate people on the autism spectrum.
This is one of the only parks, west of the Mississippi, to accommodate those on the spectrum and offer services to people with physical disabilities.
The City of Tucson approved the development of the park in Fall 2019. It will provide a safe and accessible place for people and families living with autism.
The park will be built in phases as funds become available. Phase one begins this fall with new fencing and turf play area to be completed this fall.
Officials say financial support from the community is necessary to complete the project. To donate, visit here.
