Truck driver arrested in Michigan for allegedly luring Oro Valley teen with sexual relationship

TUCSON - A 14-year-old was returned home safe Feb. 6 after she ran away from home in connection to an Oro Valley Police Department sexual exploitation case.

According to OVPD, 44-year-old Gerard Dickinson was taken into custody by Michigan State Police Feb. 8 after OVPD received a report that a 14-year-old girl ran away from home Feb. 5. After further investigation, OVPD reportedly determined that the teen ran away from home to Michigan to meet Dickinson, who is a long haul truck driver.

OVPD said its detectives found evidence that Dickinson was allegedly anticipating a sexual relationship with the 14-year-old. Police said the 44-year-old received "sexually explicit images of the victim and knew she was 14 years old."

Dickinson was charged with attempted sexual contact with a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor - accomplice, sexual exploitation of a minor - possession, sexual exploitation of a minor - possession, attempted custodial interference and luring a minor.

Authorities said Dickinson currently awaits extradition to Pima County.
