Road to Mount Lemmon closed due to winter weather

TUCSON - For those who hoped to head up to Mount Lemmon this weekend, this recent road closure may put a damper in your plans.

At 9:29 a.m. Friday, Pima County officials announced that Catalina Highway has been closed except for Mount Lemmon residents and law enforcement who have vehicles with chains or four-wheel drive capabilities.

These road conditions are subject to change.

According to News 4 Tucson meteorologist Shea Sorenson, a winter weather advisory has been issued for elevations above 4,500 feet until 11 a.m. Saturday morning. She said elevations above 7,000 feet could see 6" to 12" of snow with higher amounts possible for the peaks.
