UArizona, TEP renewable energy project proposal approved

TUCSON - The Arizona Corporation Commission approved a renewable energy project proposed by the University of Arizona and Tucson Electric Power on Tuesday.

It will be the largest project between a university an a utility company in the state.

TEP will provide the campus with enough emission-free power from solar storage and wind systems to serve the university's needs.

With the wind and solar project approved, UArizona will be the largest research university in the country to have a plan in place to offset its scope two emissions, or greenhouse gases resulting from the generation of electricity, heat or steam purchased from a utility provider, according to Pam Scott, the associate vice president of external communications of UArizona.
