Suspect arrested after leading police on chase, claims he had bomb

TUCSON – Tucson police have arrested a man who led officers on a chase and claimed he had a bomb in his vehicle.

According to Tucson Police Department, the pursuit started at the Tucson International Airport involving airport authority police. The suspect then drove into city limits and that’s when Tucson police took over the pursuit.

Police say the suspect then called 911 and claimed he had a bomb in his vehicle.

After leading police on a chase, the suspect then tried to pull into a Circle K parking lot on 12th Avenue near Dexel Road. TPD says an officer then bumped the suspect’s vehicle to keep him from pulling into the convenience store lot. The suspect then stopped his vehicle and that’s when officers rushed in to arrest him.

TPD called in its bomb squad to search the vehicle as a precaution. Police also shut down the intersection at 12th Avenue and Drexel Road as a precaution.
