Run for the Fallen: Arizona’s fallen military heroes are honored

TUCSON – Friday morning, a team of marathon-trained runners and crew started running from Tucson to Phoenix for the annual event, Arizona Run for the Fallen.

The runners and organizers will run 147 miles to 147 markers to honor and remember 470 heroes. 470 is the number of Arizona fallen military heroes since Oct. 2000.

At each stop, the team is joined by family, friends, and supporters.  The organizers give a tribute to the hero by name.

Run Director, Laura Sutton says this is the event’s 8th year, and each year this event is important for the community.

“That’s why we run on the streets,” Sutton said. “It’s to bring awareness to the communities, engage the communities, and make them understand that freedom isn’t free and that there are people still dying overseas.”

This run will conclude on Sunday at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza in Phoenix.
