Previously deported sex offender arrested near Hereford

HEREFORD, Ariz. – U.S. Border agents arrested a previously deported sex offender on Wednesday after he was found re-entering the U.S. illegally near Hereford.

Heliodoro Regino-Garcia, 44, was deported two times previously. Regino-Garcia was also convicted of molestation of a minor and sexual battery in 2015 by Fulton County, Ga.

Regino-Garcia is the second sex offender arrested by the Tucson Sector in the past 10 days with a conviction in Georgia. The 44-year-old Mexican national will face federal prosecution for immigration violations.

Regino-Garcia was discovered among four other undocumented immigrants trying to enter the country.

All of the migrants apprehended by the Border Patrol will undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure that undocumented immigrants are identified.
