Red Cross offers Amazon gift cards to donors amid emergency blood shortage

TUCSON – To help combat an emergency blood shortage, American Red Cross clinics across southern Arizona will be giving out $5 Amazon Gift Cards to anyone who donates blood or platelets.

According to officials, the Red Cross currently has less than a three-day supply of most blood types – with even less than a two-day supply for type-O blood. To help increase donations, Amazon has teamed up with Red Cross to offer $5 gift cards to Red Cross donators through Aug. 29.

“We are grateful to Amazon for their support in addressing a ‘Right Now Need’ for blood donations,” said Cliff Numark, senior vice president, Red Cross Blood Services. “Each donation truly matters to those counting on blood products to battle illness and injury. Today, we are asking the public to donate as soon as possible to ensure blood is available on hospital shelves for those in need.”

Anyone who wishes to donate is advised to call 1-800-733-2767, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or by asking an Alexa device to “find a blood drive.”

Below is a list of the upcoming Red Cross blood drives in Pima County.
