TUCSON – George Kalil, the president of Kalil Bottling Company, long-time University of Arizona basketball fan and beloved community member has died at the age of 81, according to family members.
Serving as president of Kalil Bottling Co. since 1970, Kalil has worked at this family bottling company since he was 10 years old. According to the Kalil Bottling website, Kalil is the third generation of his family to work at the company that spans across Tempe, Flagstaff, El Paso and Tucson – its corporate headquarters.
Kalil served as president of the Royal Crown Bottlers’ Association, a member of the Board of Directors for SevenUp Botters’ Association and the American Beverage Association in Washington D.C, and is a founding member of the Arizona Beverage Industry Recycling Program.
The local businessman was also named to the Beverage Industry Hall of Fame, Beverage Industry’s 1998 “Executive of the Year,” the Retail Grocers’ Association of Arizona’s 1991 “Supplier of the Year,” the 1981 “Arizona Small Business Person of the Year” and the Exchange Clubs of Tucson’s prestigious Golden Service Award in 1979.

Kalil also was well known for his love for Wildcat basketball. He reportedly has attended a majority of their games since 1972.
Services for Kalil are scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m., Thursday, July 18 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church,1946 E. Lee St., followed by a mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Holy Hope Cemetery at 3555 N. Oracle Rd.
