Skateboarder dies from injuries after struck by vehicle in midtown

TUCSON – The victim of Thursday’s fatal pedestrian collision in central Tucson was identified by Tucson Police Department Friday.

According to TPD, a man riding a skateboard westbound on 22nd Street near Swan Road was struck by a black 2005 Chevy Malibu traveling in the same direction. Despite Tucson Fire Department crews rendering first-aid on the crash victim, 36-year-old Justin A. Howell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash. However, witnesses at the scene suggest speed was a factor in the incident.

The driver stayed at the scene and is complying with the overall investigation.

No charges or citations have been issued at this time, police say.
