Shortly after releasing this report, Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels released a statement, which included information about the unofficial death toll from today’s incidents increasing to six.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to the safety and security of our citizens, and the ongoing violence reported in Agua Prieta and Naco Sonora resulting in multiple deaths on Monday and again today is cause for serious concern. We have mobilized additional assets to the Douglas and Naco Arizona locations to ensure that any required response will be swift and without delay. We are working closely with our local partners with Douglas Police and Bisbee Police and Fire Departments, as well as with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and United States Border Patrol and Homeland Security to be proactive in our collaborative efforts and responses as needed. Although these acts of violence are occurring in another country, that country joins our County and impacts all of us

Deputies are working with local, state and federal partners to monitor the situation.

The Douglas Police Department urges residents to avoid  the area or “exercise vigilance if traveling to Agua Prieta or neighboring areas.”
