Meet Me at Maynards celebrates 10 years

TUCSON – Meet Me at Maynards is a popular Tucson event.

Every Monday, 400 to 500 people meet at the Historic Train Depot and walk together around downtown.

Rick Unklesbay has been to Meet Me at Maynards since the very start. He has attended a total of 350 times.

“Everybody’s having a good time,” said Unklesbay. “There’s so many people down here and you see people come down that never come downtown and they come downtown specifically because of Meet Me at Maynards.”

In 10 years, Meet Me at Maynards has never missed a Monday. It is a weekly 4-mile run or walk around Downtown Tucson.

They, of course, “Meet” at Maynards and there is live music at the end of the walk.

“It’s a walking party! And it’s all about social exercise and showing off our downtown,” said Jannie Cox, Founder of Meet Me at Maynards.

Cox started it all 10 years ago.

“People have been coming for 10 years and they come back over and over,” said Cox. “They get incentive awards for regular attendance.”

Monday at 5 p.m. everyone is invited to meet at Maynards for a special birthday celebration. There will be live music along the route and a big party after the walk at Hotel Congress.

“There are bands all over downtown and so you can have a string quartet to mariachi and everything in between,” said Unklesbay. “It’s a lot of fun!”

Live music along the route is from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
