Student minimum wage bill meets road block

PHOENIX- Legislation to allow employers to pay young employees less than minimum wage hit a roadblock on Thursday.

Representative Travis Grantham was forced to withdraw HB 2523 from consideration by The Senate Commerce Committee after another lawmaker voiced concerns the bill could discourage people from going to school in order to work.

Grantham’s proposal would allow employers to pay the federal minimum wage ($7.25) to full-time students who are younger than 22 and work 20 hours or less.
