Buckeye man arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle 3 into US

YUMA – An Arizona man was taken into custody after he allegedly tried to smuggle three undocumented immigrants through the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint Wednesday.

According to U.S. Customs Border and Protection, the three Mexican nationals were found in the trunk of a beige 2016 Chevrolet Malibu after a Border Patrol canine alerted the Welton Station agents to the vehicle. The three men were 14, 34 and 48 years old.

The 43-year-old driver from Buckeye was also found with drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine in his possession.

The driver charged in connection to the smuggling and the three Mexican men were processed for immigration violations, according to CBP.
