Mark Kelly announces run for U.S. Senate

TUCSON – U.S. Navy combat veteran and retired NASA astronaut, Mark Kelly announced early Tuesday morning that he is running for U.S. Senate in Arizona in 2020.

The news was announced via Kelly’s Twitter account:

Kelly aims to take on Sen. Martha McSally in the 2020 Senate election. The former astronaut will first have to win the Democratic primary.

Sen. Martha McSally was recently appointed by Gov. Doug Ducey to take over late Sen. John McCain’s seat.

“This campaign is about the people of Arizona, not corporate PACs and the mess they’ve created in Washington,” Kelly wrote. “I won’t take a dime of corporate PAC money, and I’ll only answer to Arizonans.”
