TUCSON –A man who awaits trial in the death of his wife and cellmate is set to have a competency hearing on Monday.
King Yates is accused of killing his cellmate, Branden Roth, inside the Pima County Jail last April, and he is also accused of murdering his wife, Cassandra, in November 2016.
A judge ordered a competency exam last year, after Yates’ erratic behavior in court, putting his trial on hold.
There were concerns over his competency to stand trial and represent himself in court, as he had requested.
In November, a doctor was assigned to submit a “mental restoration plan” for Yates.
