4 the Weekend: 5K with a twist, to benefit first responders

With the 65th Gem Mineral and Fossil Show in full swing, different shows are popping up around Tucson. The JCK features a lineup of events to educate people in the jewelry industry about selling strategy and digital presence. It also features 130 artisans selling gemstones from designers and suppliers. The event is perfect for people who create custom jewelry.



Opening Weekend

Saturday & Sunday 

Gates open 10 a.m. 

Rillito Park Racetrack


The 2019 Winter Races kick off on Saturday. This season includes 12 live race days. Opening day is Sat. Feb. 9. Gates open at 10 a.m. and post time is 1:30 p.m. You can contact the racetrack for reserved seating.



U of A vs Washington State 


5:30 p.m. 

McKale Center


The Arizona’s men’s basketball team takes on the Washington State Cougars Saturday night. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. at McKale Center. Ticket prices range from $26 to $140.



Run to Rescue 5K


9 a.m. 

PCSD Training Center, 1250 W. Silverlake Rd. 


The Run to Rescue 5K puts a twist on the typical 5k. It begins with a fitness challenge similar to the physical test first responders must pass. The family fun event also has a youth obstacle event after the 5K. Online registration is $27.50. All of the proceeds from the event go to Kent’s Heart and Hope Foundation, which is a non-profit that helps financially support local first responders who have life-threatening illnesses.
