Preliminary hearing waived for Ryan Schlesinger, remains in custody

TUCSON –The man accused of shooting and killing a Deputy U.S Marshal was in court Tuesday.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 26-year-old Ryan Schlesinger; it was waived at the request of the defense.

A judge ruled that Schlesinger will remain in custody due to him being a threat to the community.

His court date has not been scheduled.

Officials say, Ryan Schlesinger,  killed 41-year-old Deputy U.S. Marshal Chase White while he was serving a felony warrant.  Schlesinger was wanted for stalking a Tucson police sergeant.

White was a married father of four children from Peoria, Illinois. He was also a 3-year veteran of the U.S. Marshals Service assigned to the District of Arizona.

Community members have organized a series of “open mat” events and created a GoFundMe account to help White’s family.
