Two Arizonans arrested in two separate smuggling attempts

TUCSON – Two Arizona residents and three Mexican nationals were taken into custody at the State Route 80 Immigration Checkpoint this week.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a 31-year-old man from Mesa was arrested Sunday after Border Patrol agents found a 36-year-old woman from Honduras and an 18-year-old man from Mexico in the truck of his Ford Fusion.

On Thursday, Border Patrol also located a 17-year-old and a 41-year-old who were hidden in a trunk of a Hyundai Sonata. The two were said to be from Mexico. A 25-year-old Phoenix man apprehended in connectin to the smuggling attempt.

He and his wife Cindy have two grown children and make their home in Rochester.
