4 the Weekend: El Tour takes over Tucson

The 36th annual El Tour de Tucson is happening this Saturday. The event brings more than 9,000 cyclists to Tucson. There are some changes to the route this year.

Changes include:

  • No lower Santa Cruz river(bed) crossing.
  •  Route goes very southeast
  • No north Oracle Rd/Rancho Vistoso

The first races start at 7 a.m. Every race ends at Armory Park.

  • 100-Mile Rio Nuevo El Tour                                                                                      Start Time 7:00am
    Avoid using 6th Ave to get there – there will be road closures!
    Location:  Armory Park, 6th Ave at 13th St, downtown Tucson
  • 75-Mile El Tour     Start Time:  8:30am
    Location:  Golf Links Sports Complex, 2498 S Craycroft at Golf Links.
  • 50-Mile Tucson Orthopaedic Institute/Select OrthoDME Solutions El Tour        Start Time:  10:30am
    Location: Morris K Udall Park, Sabino Canyon Rd south of Tanque Verde
    7200 E Tanque Verde Rd, Tucson, 85715
  • 25-Mile Town of Marana El Tour                                                                              Start time:  1:00pm
    Location:  Marana at Heritage River Park
    12375 N. Heritage Park Dr., Marana, AZ
  • Tucson Medical Center El Tour FUN RIDE                                                              Start Time:  8:00am
    Avoid 6th Ave to get there – best approach is from the east and north!
    Location:  6th Ave at 12th Street, downtown Tucson.

The Pima County Sheriff warned drivers of road closures in a recent tweet.

Sonoran Harvest ‘Taste the Desert’

6:30- 9:30 pm

The Desert Museum is hosting Sonoran Harvest Taste the Desert Saturday. The event features food trucks, restaurants and local breweries. Chefs will compete to create the best dish using prickly pear and/or mesquite. Guests vote for the best dish and the winner is crowned the Sonoran Harvest King or Queen. It is a 21 and up event. Opens Friday

9 a.m. – 4 p.m

The 2018/19 season kicks off Friday at Snowbowl According to their website, the Grand Canyon Express chairlift will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., giving visitors access to four intermediate trails including Midway Catwalk, Logjam, Wild Turkey and Round Up. Little Spruce, the conveyor lift, will offer access to beginner terrain on Hart Prairie, the largest beginner area in the southwest.

Winter lift tickets start at $35. Prices vary daily. There are military, birthday and children’s discounts. Get your tickets here!
