Community throws party for 6-year-old after no one shows up to his birthday

TUCSON – For the majority of 6-year-olds, they collect their fondest memories of the year during their birthday.

Despite the jumping castles, delicious cake and endless presents, there is typically one aspect kids will always remember – they had fun with their friends.

Unfortunately for one Tucson birthday boy, none of his friends showed up to his party. After his story went viral on social media, the Arizona community has rallied together to make sure his sixth birthday is a happy moment he will never forget.

According to Silvina Mazzini, her 6-year-old son, Teddy Bollinger was given three choices for how he would celebrate his birthday this year – a trip to Legoland, a visit to Disneyland or have a party at Peter Piper Pizza. He told his mother he wanted a pizza party.

“He said, ‘No, I really want a party with my friends,'” Mazzini said.

As it was Teddy’s first big birthday party, the Basis Tucson Primary student originally wanted to have all 32 of his classmates attend his special celebration. With his birthday actually on Oct. 3, the family planned the party around her husband’s schedule.

“We don’t have family (in Tucson). His dad is from Alaska and his family is there,” the mother said. “My family is in Argentina.”

Mazzini said she gave out written invitations to the teacher two weeks prior to the party, who promptly passed them out to Teddy’s classmate.

She said she received replies that several classmates were going to attend the party. She said she even confirmed that his classmates were going with some of their parents at a Halloween Party at the school.

The 6-year-old’s mother said out of the 30 goody bag invitations she gave out to the kids, only two RSVPed no.

“They told me they were going to come,” Teddy’s mother said. “I got text messages saying they were going to come too.”

But when the party date finally arrived, Mazzini said no one came to his celebration. She said her heart was broken for her son who was looking forward to playing games and enjoying pizza with his friends. The mother then posted a photo on social media and Teddy’s story went viral around the area.

If you get a chance please wish Teddy a Happy Birthday. His mom sent me this after his friends weren't able to make it to his birthday party.

According to the mother, the Phoenix Suns even invited Teddy to watch Wednesday’s basketball game against Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

“We weren’t expecting the tickets. We never asked for anything, but we are happy that they invited us,” she said. “It is going to be his first game and he is super happy about it.”

And best of all, Teddy got to celebrate his special day knowing that hundreds of people wish him a happy birthday.

“Thank you all for the birthday wishes,” Teddy said in a video on Facebook. “Big kiss.”

Teddy’s mother said he is learning how to read and write. People who wish to send Teddy a birthday card or letter can send them to P.O. Box 18952, Tucson, AZ 85731.

“We definitely don’t want anything. No money or anything crazy like that,” Mazzini said. “We are happy for all the support and overwhelmed from the support of the community. There are a lot of nice people out there.”
