Retailers are looking for seasonal employees

TUCSON – It is officially fall  and that means the holidays are right around the corner.

Anyone looking for some extra cash for the holidays has a chance. There are more than 150 openings right now.

Retail stores and other companies are looking for extra help this holiday season.

“This time of year it’s good for the folks that need a little spending money, maybe a little extra cash,” said Richard McKeown, General Manager of the Tucson Premium Outlets.

McKeown says there are more than 30 stores at the outlets hoping to hire on seasonal employees.

Pima County One Stop has a list of about 100 seasonal jobs too. They say it is primarily young adults who are looking for seasonal jobs and right now in Pima County, they say employment is tight.

“We do actually have anywhere from an 18-year-old on our staff, all the way up to semi-retired individuals,” said Mikal Danley, Merchandise Manager for VF Outlet. “If you’re a people-person and you can deal with the public and if you like it… That’s the thing to, you have to like retail because retail is very hard. There are a lot of jobs out there that are hard, but retail is all about customer service and people.”

Danley says they are looking to hire 3-4 seasonal employees. He says though they are seasonal, there is a possibility they will be kept on as staff after the holiday season.

Most companies keep applications on file for 90 days, so it is best to re-apply now that there are some openings.

“A lot of retailers do it online and that’s usually the protocol, but people that come in with a resume and are dressed nice, it’s really a plus because it shows a name with a face,” said Danley.

Anyone can go to Pima County One Stop for help getting one of these jobs.

The Tucson Premium Outlets has a hiring event where folks can apply to multiple stores in a day.

“We’re really excited,” said McKeown. “We did it last year for the first time and had a great turnout. We look for candidates that dress to impress, as they say, be professional and put your best foot forward.”
