Pregnant woman found shot in her home, boyfriend arrested

Javier Figueroa was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons/ Pinal County Sheriff’s Office

CASA GRANDE – A man was arrested after his pregnant girlfriend was found shot inside her home in Casa Grande Monday evening.

According to Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, the deputies initially responded to her home, located in the 5900 block of North Fuchsia Street, in reference to a burglary. They received a report that a single gunshot was heard coming from the home.

When they entered the woman’s house, they found the 30-year-old woman in the bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head. When the victim’s boyfriend, later identified as 23-year-old Javier Figueroa, returned to the house in her vehicle about 20 minutes after the report, deputies said they noticed blood on his person.

PCSO officials said Figueroa indicted to the deputies that the incident was an accident. He was arrested for aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons.

Deputies say Figueroa may face additional charges.

The victim, who was seven months pregnant, was airlifted to a nearby hospital. She was put in a medically-induced coma.

The child was delivered successfully. The baby, who is two months premature, is in stable condition, officials say.

The investigation is on-going.
