Mayor

Regina Romero - Democrat
Daughter of migrant farm workers, Tucson's first woman elected city council member served Ward 1 for three terms. The mother of two graduated from the UA and holds a post-graduate degree from Harvard Kennedy School.


Michael Cease -Green Party
After earning a Master's Degree in chemical engineering from the University of Arizona, the Oklahoma native became the owner of a local consulting firm, Database Consulting Service. Cease is currently the chairperson of the Green Party of Pima County.


Ed Ackerley - Independent
The Palo Verde High School and University of Arizona graduate is an account executive at Ackerley Advertising. The Tucson Native also teaches at UA and NAU, and held leadership roles at the American Advertising Federation.


Ward 1

Lane Santa Cruz - Democrat
A second-generation Tucsonan, the Ward 1 council aide has spent 12 years in nonprofits and grassroots community efforts. The Desert View High School graduate earned a PhD and has taught classes at the University of Arizona.


Sam Nagy - Republican
Sam Nagy qualified as the GOP candidate for the city council Ward 1 seat following a write-in campaign. Nagy is running on a platform focusing combating the opiate epidemic, increasing support to the city's emergency agencies and restoring Tucson's roads.


Matthew Smith - Green Party
Matthew Smith qualified as the Green Party candidate for the city council Ward 1 seat following a write-in campaign. He is a coordinator of the campaign and planning committee.


Ward 2

Paul Cunningham - Democrat (Incumbent)
Born and raised in Arizona, the incumbent city councilman started his career at the Ott Family YMCA before teaching at Apollo Middle School. He served Pima County Juvenile Probation Department, Army Reserve and National Guard.


Ewart Williams - Republican
The New York native is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and has owned El Williams Plastering for 20 years. The New Rochelle High School alum studied at Pima Community College, Palomar College and MiraCosta College.


William Peterson - Green Party
William Peterson qualified as the Green Party candidate for the city council Ward 1 seat following a write-in campaign.


Ward 4

Nikki Lee - Democrat
An Air Force veteran, the mother of three worked in the information technology field for 19 years and currently works for the Aerospace & Defense industry. She was also a member of the Greater Tucson Leadership Class of 2017.


Michael Hicks - Republican
Since moving to Tucson at an early age, the father of two served eight years on the TUSD Governing Board. The former TDOT ITS manager currently works for Professional Transit Management and is a PCC adjunct faculty member.


Cara Bissell- Green Party
A retired New York City high school teacher, the 10-year Arizona resident is a member of the Dietz Neighborhood Association. Bissell has lived in Tucson for four years and is also the Veterans for Peace Tucson Chapter 13 president.
