TUCSON – Thieves stole $200 worth of packages from a couple’s backyard. The stolen goods consisted of auto parts to repair the A/C unit of the couple’s car.
“Unfortunately, we really can’t afford to get our cars worked on by mechanics,” said homeowner Sivine Lupia. “We fix our cars ourselves.”
Luckily, they had a surveillance camera keeping an eye on their property. This is what it saw on June 25 at 1:21 p.m.
The video captured two men walking. They spotted two boxes in the couple’s backyard.
“One was looking out while the other was looking to jump my fence. So one of them jumped my fence, over here and fed the packages to the other person, right here,” Lupia said. “They just took off to the wash.”
The couple called South Tucson Police. A report was taken. They then took to the neighborhood to find their stolen auto parts.
“He went into the wash himself and found the empty boxes,” Lupia said. “There were six people surrounding the empty boxes, none of whom saw who actually took them, supposedly.”
Her husband, John Ouzts, said it is really upsetting especially since the temperature is staying in the triple digits.
“It’s definitely unfortunate that I have to drive a car with no A/C because the car with A/C can’t be repaired because someone decided to help themselves to our property,” said Ouzts.
The couple is not giving up. They were told by FedEx and the auto parts company that the items were delivered, so they are not able to replace the merchandise.
“It’s a matter of when we find the people not a matter of if,” said Lupia. “So just know we’re coming for you.”
The owners said the thieves maybe got $15 to $20 for the packages but to the owners getting this vehicle fixed is worth a lot more.
