Ironwood Fire blazes through Dragoon Mountains, zero percent contained

COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Ironwood Fire, which ignited Sunday, is burning on the eastern side of the Dragoon Mountains off Ironwood Road.

As of Monday evening, officials have reported the fire has burned 130 acres and is zero percent contained.

Officials in Cochise County have prompted a "ready" warning for residents in the area to be prepared to evacuate.

According to USDA Forest Service officials, the fire is burning through an extremely dry and rough terrain that has not been exposed to fire for many decades.

On Monday, two large air tankers dropped fire retardant to help slow the fire's spread.

Firefighter resources are currently spread thin due to the intensity of the fire season across the west, but additional resources have been ordered from other regions to assist with the fire, officials said.
