TUCSON - Thousands of pounds of cat food was delivered Tuesday to a Tucson-based animal welfare group.

GreaterGood.org and the pet food brand, Purina, dropped off 8,800 cat meals to the non-profit group, Cody's Friends.

Cody's Friends will distribute the meals to homeless cats.

The Tucson distribution is part of a $40,000 donation of pet food raised during the fifth annual Shelter Bowl.

The donation will provide more than two million meals for shelter pets across the U.S, including Tucson.

A representative from GreaterGood.org said that cat food is hard to come by for a lot of rescues so it's a very special time for the organization to get all the rescues the food they need.

The meals provided by the Shelter Bowl and Purina will allow funds to be used for veterinary care and other necessities.
