Coldest air in 7 years arrives overnight – and some of the coldest in the past 50 years!

TUCSON - Jan. 15, 2013, the mercury plummeted to 17 degrees in the City of Tucson.

While we won't be quite that cold Wednesday morning, parts of Metro Tucson will be close.

It's safe to say this is the coldest air mass we've seen since that January since that date is also the last time Tucson has been colder than 25 degrees.

Here's a general idea of what the weather map will look like at 7 A.M. Wednesday morning.

A Hard Freeze Warning is in effect for the City of Tucson until 9 A.M. Wednesday morning so now is the time to make plans to protect the 4 P's.

Let's put some of these numbers into perspective.

Only three times in the past 30 years has the temperature fallen below 25 degrees, and in the past 50 years, we've only seen temperatures colder than 25 degrees nine times.
